Get Online or Get Left Behind

The internet is something that most people do not use to their advantage. Some people know enough about computers to check email, write Word documents, surf the web and maybe play some games. But there are still many people who do not know how to use the internet properly. Typically, the older generations find computers to be something they do not need, nor do they want to learn. While children today are being brought up surrounded by technology like cellular phones, video games, computers, and iPods. In this day and age, most children can do more with a computer than the older generations.

If more people took the time to learn about the internet, they would see that it can truly make life easier and more enjoyable. For instance, the computer can be used to pay all monthly bills and do all banking online. It is possible to have all of bills automatically deducted from a checking account. No more writing checks, licking stamps, or going to the post office. Everything just gets paid automatically and on time.

The internet is also essential for job searching. There are endless amounts of job boards, and job searching resources online. There are also places that will help with resume writing, cover letter writing, and job interviewing skills. If the people who still look through the want ads, knew how much easier it is online, they would be amazed.

Shopping online is also becoming safer and easier. It is possible to find almost anything on Ebay, Amazon and Craigslist. These sites also allow people to sell goods or services quickly and conveniently. When searching for a house, look online first. Then make a list of the ones worth visiting and go to see them with a realtor. Looking online first, this will save time, weed out the bad ones quickly, without having to visit physically. In addition to real estate, online car shopping has come along way as well.

Socializing has become an integral part of the internet. There are chat rooms, social networking sites, dating sites, forums, message boards, and blogs. There are also sites that allow sharing of photos with friends and family. More people are communicating with email rather than phone or mail.

With search engines, information can be found quickly and easily. It is possible to find information on almost anything online. If a person needs to research something, it is a breeze on the web. If a movie-goer simply wants to know what movies are playing, and where, the answer is just a click away. RSS and data feeds make it easy to get news and information delivered up-to-the-minute without having to visit any sites at all.

There is a never-ending amount of entertainment on the web. With YouTube and Google Video, it is possible to find almost any video imaginable, for free. More sites are putting full length television shows online. Music can be purchased online, there are also millions of free songs that can be found on the web. There are an endless amount of online games that are available to play. As well as billions of sites made just for the purpose of entertainment.

Education has moved online as well. Most schools and universities are now offering online classes, which makes things very convenient for students. Even children who are in elementary school have grades that are posted online. Now parents can check their children’s grades, attendance and progress online. The children today will not be able to get away with anything. It almost makes a person glad that the internet was not around back in the day.

If there are still people who refuse to go online or avoid computers, this is a huge disadvantage. For instance, job searchers using the old fashioned way only relying on want ads, now hiring signs and word of mouth, compete with job searchers who are using the internet and have the greater advantage.

A business today has a small chance of surviving without being on the internet. Most business communications are done online. Not to mention, without a web presence a company seems like it is not reaching everyone it could. A company needs to leverage every possible resource. Even a small company can look like a giant on the web.

Not using the internet to the full potential limits a person. An entire world of knowledge gets overlooked. Using the internet can also save time, money and gas. For instance, if a person does not bank, shop, communicate or do research online, this person would be forced to go to the bank every week, run to the mall or the post office, or worse of all it will require a physical visit to the library to find information. Not to mention, all the internet only deals that will be missed out on.

Not being online today is like using a horse and buggy while everyone else is driving a car. Why limit yourself? It will become harder to keep up with others and a person will become outdated quickly. The longer the wait to get online, the tougher it will be to catch up with everyone else and understand what is happening in the online world.

It is overwhelming to think about what is currently online. It is amazing how far that the internet has come in the last few years. The future will be extremely exciting as the internet grows even more powerful and useful. Everything is out there waiting, everything imaginable is just a search away.
