Twelve Steps to Better Blog Posts
Here are twelve steps to better blog posts. Proven tips to help you write better blog posts.
1. Keep your posts short. Two or three paragraphs at the most. The shorter the better. If an article is short, the search engines can easily identify what it is about. Therefore you rank higher in the search engines. If you have to, break longer posts up into part I, part II, etc.
2. Use lots of keywords. If I was writing about laser surgery. I would use the words laser surgery as much as I can throughout the post. Use laser surgery in the title of the article, in the first sentence, throughout the article, and in the last sentence. Using the keywords laser surgery often will help the search engines figure out that your article is about laser surgery.
3. Keep your posts on topic. If I am writing about laser surgery, I don’t want to go off on tangents. Only cover one topic per post. If I find myself writing about the risks of laser surgery in my article, I’d make a whole seperate post about the risks of laser surgery.
4. Keep your ear to the ground. Pay close attention to any news on your topic. You want to write about current or upcoming news. Any time you can be controversial or ask questions, go for it. You want to intrigue your readers. It’s ok to piss them off.
5. Do not plagiarize. You should only be writing original content. Never steal anything. You can get inspiration from other sites, etc., just don’t flat out steal information. Rewrite things and get inspiration if you have to, but don’t steal anything without referencing the source. Google will penalize you for duplicate content. Not to mention you could get sued.
6. You can reference other articles. Such as: Today I was surfing the web and I found this great information on laser surgery (Quote a few paragraphs). Then say, to read the full article go to laser surgery news dot com (provide link).
7. Keep your tone casual. Be funny. Try to entertain your readers. Offer information they can’t get anywhere else. Be cutting edge. Be unique. Be quirky.
8. Surf as many blogs as you can in your niche. See what others are writing on the topic. See what the writing style is.
9. Keep a list of competition in your niche. You want to visit these sites often for inspiration or to keep on top of the niche. Be an expert.
10. Don’t put any personal information in your posts. To be honest, readers don’t care about you, they care about what you are writing about.
11. Don’t include a lot of pictures. Pictures slow down your pages. They don’t help you rank better on the search engines. They hog disk space and bandwidth. Blogging is about text and content, not images.
12. Write often. The more your site changes, the better. Ultimately, writing every day would be perfect. But it’s not a perfect world.
You want to write to entertain your readers. You are also writing to get a nice spot on the search engines.
If you stick to the above rules, your articles will be on the first page of Google. Once you get on the first page of Google, the money will follow. But if your articles don’t rank well on the search engines, your earnings will suffer.
